The Materials and Catalysis Laboratory (MCL) has all of the facilities of a world-class research centre.
Our lab specialises in materials synthesis and characterisation with a focus on heterogeneous catalysis and battery technologies.
Our in-house lab facilities include:
- Microwave Plasma – Atomic Emission Spectrometer (MP-AES)
- Gas Chromatograph – Mass Spectrometer (GC-MS)
- Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR)
- Tube Furnace
- High Pressure Autoclave Reactor
- Nitrogen Sorption Surface Area Analyser
- Electrochemical Cell Setup
Under the umbrella of UCL research, we can access and frequently use:
- Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM)
- Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM)
- Energy Dispersive X-Rays (EDX)
- X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS)
- X-Ray Powder Diffraction (XRD)
X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy (XAS) and Imaging and Microscopy: Our expertise in characterisation techniques extends to X-ray Light Source Synchrotron Facilities. The group has been awarded beamtime at the following facilities and our network is still growing!
- United Kingdom: Diamond Light Source
- Germany: BESSY-II
- Japan: SPring-8
- South Korea: PAL
